DUSU Vote Counting Begins Under Tight Security, 2,000 Personnel Deployed
DUSU vote counting began in Delhi University on September 19 amid heavy security, road restrictions and heightened police deployment.
Counting of votes for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections began at 8 am on Saturday, September 19, amid tight security across the university campus. More than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed, with restrictions imposed on several key roads.
The counting for the four central posts — president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary — is taking place at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus. Security teams have been positioned at strategic locations, while foot patrols, motorcycle teams and PCR vans are monitoring the campuses.
Authorities have also restricted vehicular movement on Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road until the results are declared. Police and university officials are coordinating entry and exit arrangements to manage student and supporter movement around the counting centre.
The 2026 DUSU contest featured major student organisations including the RSS-affiliated ABVP, Congress-backed NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance. A total of 20 candidates contested the four central posts. The election recorded a 40.46 per cent voter turnout across 52 polling centres.
The security measures come after the Delhi High Court barred victory processions, drums and similar celebrations following the results and issued notices to 140 candidates over alleged violations of election norms.
In the 2025 DUSU elections, ABVP won three of the four central posts, while NSUI secured the vice-president’s position.
