The incident reportedly took place on Thursday evening in the area under Bindki Kotwali police station. According to police, residents had been dealing with poor mobile connectivity for an extended period, and tensions escalated when the tower worker arrived in the village.
The worker was allegedly detained by villagers and tied to a pole inside the premises of the mobile tower. A video circulating online shows the man tied to the pole while several people stand around him.
Residents said a mobile tower operated by a telecom company was installed in Hardauli around two years ago. The installation had raised expectations that the village’s connectivity problems would improve.
However, villagers claimed that the network continued to remain unreliable, particularly in recent months. They said they faced difficulties making phone calls and accessing mobile internet services.
According to residents, complaints about the connectivity problems had been raised repeatedly, but the issue allegedly remained unresolved.
The situation escalated on Thursday evening when the tower worker arrived in the village. Villagers allegedly detained him and tied him to a pole within the tower compound. The incident was recorded on video, which later spread widely on social media.
Police reached the location after receiving information about the incident and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the detention.
Bindki Kotwali in-charge Shailesh Singh said the preliminary investigation indicated that residents were angry over the mobile network problems in the area.
Police are examining the viral video and other available evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved in detaining and tying the worker.
Authorities said further action would be determined based on the findings of the investigation and the evidence collected.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the residents’ complaints about prolonged mobile connectivity problems, while the police investigation will determine whether legal action is warranted against those involved in the alleged detention.
