Pregnant Delhi Police SWAT Commando Killed by Husband: Chilling Phone Call, Dowry Allegations, and a Case That Shook the Capital

A deeply disturbing case of alleged domestic violence has shaken the national capital after a 27-year-old pregnant SWAT commando of the Delhi Police succumbed to injuries days after being brutally assaulted by her husband at their residence in West Delhi.

The victim, Kajal Chaudhary, who was four months pregnant at the time of the attack, died on January 27 at a hospital in Ghaziabad, five days after the incident. Kajal was serving with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and was known among colleagues as a disciplined and committed officer.

Her husband, Ankur, a clerk employed with the Ministry of Defence, has been accused of repeatedly assaulting her, with the final attack allegedly involving a dumbbell and forceful blows to her head.

A chilling final phone call

According to police and family statements, the events leading up to Kajal’s death include a phone call that her family has described as haunting. Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, said he received a call from Ankur moments before the assault escalated.

He alleged that Ankur asked him to record the call for the police and then stated that he was killing his sister. Nikhil said he could hear Kajal screaming in the background before the line disconnected. Shortly after, another call followed in which Ankur allegedly claimed Kajal was dead and asked the family to come to the hospital.

By the time relatives and police reached the medical facility, Ankur and his family were already present.

Allegations of prolonged abuse and dowry harassment

Kajal’s family has accused Ankur of subjecting her to sustained physical and mental abuse, including dowry harassment, even during pregnancy. They alleged that despite her condition, Kajal was forced to carry out household chores and was repeatedly assaulted over domestic and financial disputes.

Her father claimed that nearly ₹20 lakh was spent on the wedding, including cash, gold, and a motorcycle, yet the harassment continued. The family also alleged that earlier attempts at reconciliation failed, with violence resuming despite apologies.

Police sources confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate repeated domestic disputes, allegedly triggered by loan repayments, household expenses, and financial stress.

Legal action and investigation

A case was initially registered at Mohan Garden police station under charges of attempt to murder. Following Kajal’s death, police said the charges would be upgraded to murder. Investigators are also examining allegations related to dowry harassment under relevant sections of the law.

Officials stated that medical reports, call records, and forensic evidence are being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation. Statements from family members and neighbours have also been recorded.

A child left behind

Kajal is survived by a 1.5-year-old son, who is currently in the care of her parents. Family members described the loss as irreparable, stating that Kajal had continued to serve in a demanding policing role while managing personal turmoil at home.

Wider concerns

The case has reignited concerns around domestic violence, particularly involving women in uniform, and the vulnerability of pregnant women facing abuse within households. Rights groups and former police officials have called for stricter monitoring, faster intervention mechanisms, and greater institutional support for women officers facing domestic threats.

As the investigation continues, the case stands as a grim reminder that professional strength and public service do not shield individuals from private violence—and that early warning signs, if ignored, can end in irreversible tragedy.
