The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted searches at the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abdullah Gazi in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged foreign funding connected to the construction of a madrasa.

The operation was carried out at Gazi’s residence in Rameshwarpur, located in the Hasnabad area, where investigators also questioned the local political leader during the search.

Multiple Locations Covered in Operation

The investigation was not limited to Hasnabad alone. Search teams also visited several locations across West Bengal, including Haroa, as agencies continued tracing the financial trail linked to the case.

Officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) assisted the Uttar Pradesh ATS during the operation, while central security personnel provided security. Local police and district administration officials were also present throughout the searches.

Agencies Probe Alleged Foreign Money Trail

Investigators are examining allegations that substantial funds from overseas were transferred into bank accounts associated with Abdullah Gazi for the construction of a madrasa in Rameshwarpur.

The probe is focused on identifying the origin of the funds, reviewing financial transactions and related documentation, and determining whether the money was used for its declared purpose.

Officials are also scrutinising claims that large sums were collected as foreign donations, with investigators working to establish how those funds were received and utilised.

Authorities indicated that the investigation remains active and that future action will depend on the evidence gathered during the searches.

Fresh Leads Revive Earlier Investigation

According to officials, Gazi had previously been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS nearly two years ago in connection with a related investigation. That case remains under examination, and the latest searches were reportedly triggered by new information that emerged during the ongoing probe.

The Uttar Pradesh ATS has not released an official statement regarding the latest operation.
