Varun Backs India Before Pak T20 WC Clash

India’s commanding 93-run win over Namibia has boosted confidence in the camp ahead of their high-profile T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Pakistan in Colombo.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy believes India hold an advantage going into Sunday’s match.

“We Have the Edge”

Speaking after the Namibia victory, Chakaravarthy said India’s strong spin attack gives them an upper hand.

“We have a strong spin attack, and I feel we have the edge over them,” he said. He added that belief and confidence play a major role in World Cup matches.

While acknowledging that Pakistan may be more familiar with Sri Lankan conditions, he stressed that India’s preparation and recent momentum count in their favour.

Spin Turns the Game

India posted 209/9 in their previous match, powered by half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya.

Namibia started strongly in the chase, reaching 57/1 during the Powerplay. However, the introduction of spin shifted the momentum.

Chakaravarthy picked up 3 wickets for just 7 runs in two overs. He was well supported by Axar Patel, who returned figures of 2/20. Namibia were eventually bowled out for 116.

The performance strengthened India’s position at the top of Group A with two wins in two matches.

Adapting to Conditions

Chakaravarthy said the pitches in Delhi and Mumbai have been slower than expected, requiring quick adjustments from bowlers.

He also highlighted the possible impact of dew in Colombo. “Dew can be a big factor when defending totals,” he said, adding that experience from the Indian Premier League has helped players learn how to manage such conditions.

According to him, improving existing deliveries — through more overspin, higher revolutions and quicker variations — has been key to his recent success at the international level.

“At this level, you don’t have time to settle in. You have to be accurate from the first ball,” he explained.

High-Stakes Encounter Ahead

India-Pakistan matches in ICC tournaments always draw intense attention, and this T20 World Cup fixture is no exception.

With India entering the contest unbeaten and confidence high, the focus will be on whether their spin strength can once again play a decisive role.

Pakistan, meanwhile, will look to counter India’s bowling attack and challenge their early dominance in the group.

As both teams prepare for Sunday’s clash in Colombo, expectations are building for another closely watched chapter in one of cricket’s most storied rivalries.
