Star India batter Virat Kohli will not feature in Delhi’s upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy Group D fixture against Railways, scheduled to be played in Alur on Tuesday. The decision confirms that Kohli’s appearances in this season’s domestic one-day competition have come to an end.
Kohli had earlier fulfilled the board’s domestic participation requirement by turning out in two matches for Delhi, delivering impactful knocks of 131 and 77 against Andhra and Gujarat respectively. Those performances played a key role in Delhi registering back-to-back victories and strengthening their position at the top of the Group D standings.
After missing the subsequent three fixtures, there was speculation around Kohli possibly featuring in one more game before linking up with the national squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand. However, with international commitments approaching, Delhi will now proceed without their most experienced campaigner for the remainder of the league phase.
Kohli’s absence also means fans will miss a potential face-off against Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan, who had dismissed him in what turned out to be the final red-ball match of Kohli’s career. The decision to skip the fixture appears to be part of workload management, especially as Kohli continues a strong run in white-ball cricket and looks ahead to limited opportunities in the 50-over format on the road to the 2027 World Cup.
Meanwhile, fellow senior batter Rohit Sharma has already completed his domestic appearances for Mumbai this season, bringing an end to the much-discussed return of the senior duo to India’s domestic circuit.
Star Power Remains in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Despite the absence of Kohli and Rohit, the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy round will still feature several prominent Indian players. Shubman Gill is set to return to competitive action, while Shreyas Iyer makes his comeback after recovering from injury. The matches are also expected to see appearances from Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, ensuring strong fan interest across venues.
