Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has opened to massive anticipation, but early reactions on X suggest the film has left audiences sharply divided. While many viewers have praised Yash’s screen presence, action sequences and visual scale, others have criticised the writing, pacing and lengthy runtime.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is a period action thriller set in post-Independence Goa. Yash plays a dual role as Raya, a powerful gangster, and his estranged son Rumi, also known as Ticket.
Several early reviews described Yash as the film’s biggest strength. Fans praised his performance, attitude and screen presence, particularly in the Hindi version, where he dubbed his own lines. The cinematography, production design and action scenes also received positive responses.
However, criticism focused heavily on the screenplay and emotional depth. Some viewers called the narrative uneven and complained that several scenes felt random or unnecessarily stretched. The nearly three-hour runtime was another major concern.
Certain reactions also criticised the adult scenes, dialogues, background score and character development. A few viewers described the film as visually impressive but lacking substance. Others, however, praised the first half, screenplay and world-building, with one interval review rating it 4.5 out of 5.
Overall, Toxic appears to have generated a mixed response on social media. Yash’s performance and the film’s technical brilliance have won appreciation, but questions remain over whether its ambitious storytelling can match its grand presentation.
The film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi. It marks Yash’s first major theatrical release since KGF: Chapter 2.
