The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its elections and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its Mumbai headquarters on September 18. The selection of two representatives for the IPL Governing Council will be among the key items on the agenda.
The BCCI has asked member associations to submit details of their representatives for inclusion in the electoral roll by August 31. The draft electoral roll will be published on September 1. Candidates can file nominations on September 9 and 10 between 11 am and 4 pm.
The final list of contesting candidates will be announced on September 12, with the elections and declaration of results scheduled for September 18. The board will also appoint a representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association to the IPL Governing Council and discuss the appointment of BCCI representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Another major proposal concerns the Cricket Association Andaman & Nicobar. The BCCI will consider granting associate membership to the organisation, which currently has no affiliation with the national cricket board.
The proposal could mark the first step towards bringing cricket in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands under the BCCI’s structure. Member associations have been asked to share their views before a final decision is taken.
If approved, the BCCI could gradually develop cricket infrastructure and support the growth of the sport across the islands. However, an immediate entry into India’s domestic tournaments is unlikely, with the focus expected to remain on developing players and the cricketing ecosystem first.
India’s domestic competitions currently feature 38 teams, and Andaman and Nicobar could eventually become another addition.
