Bruno Fernandes has joined Cristiano Ronaldo in an exclusive group after winning the PFA Player of the Year award for his outstanding 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
The Manchester United captain became only the second Portuguese player to receive the honour. Ronaldo previously won the award in consecutive seasons in 2007 and 2008 during his first spell at Old Trafford.
Fernandes enjoyed a remarkable season, setting a Premier League record with 21 assists while scoring nine goals. His performances helped Manchester United finish third in the league and earned him recognition from fellow professionals through the Professional Footballers’ Association vote.
The 31-year-old also featured in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. His latest award further strengthens Manchester United’s record in the competition, with players from the club now winning the men’s PFA Player of the Year honour 12 times.
Since joining United in 2020, Fernandes has scored 110 goals and provided 106 assists. He reached 200 goal involvements in 314 Premier League appearances, becoming one of the club’s most influential players in recent years.
However, his individual success comes as Manchester United attempt to recover from a difficult start to the new Premier League season. The club suffered a 2-0 defeat against Hull City in their opening match, exposing several defensive concerns.
United will now hope Fernandes can carry his excellent form into the new campaign and help Michael Carrick’s side recover quickly.
