AAP Protests as ED Raids GMADA Offices in Mohali
AAP workers protested outside the GMADA office as the ED continued searches linked to an alleged money-laundering probe involving land and financial transactions in Punjab.
Aam Aadmi Party workers staged a protest outside the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) office on Thursday as the Enforcement Directorate continued searches linked to an alleged money-laundering investigation. The operation reportedly concerns alleged irregularities involving land acquisition, change of land use and related financial transactions.
The ED searches at GMADA began on Tuesday and continued into a second day. The agency also searched the residence of Gurpreet Singh Saini, nephew of Punjab minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, in Sahnewal. A government residence in Sector 39, Chandigarh, linked to AAP leader Satyendar Jain, was also searched.
AAP workers gathered outside the GMADA premises, waving black flags and raising slogans against the central agency. AAP leaders alleged that central agencies were being used to put pressure on the Punjab government ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. These are political allegations by the party and have not been established by the searches themselves.
The Punjab government has also approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court over the ED operation. The court appointed a warrant officer to inspect the search locations and submit a status report, adding a legal dimension to the ongoing dispute.
