India Among Six Bidders for 2038 Asian Games, OCA Decision by 2028
India is among six countries interested in hosting the 2038 Asian Games, with the OCA expected to decide the host after multiple evaluation rounds.
India is among six countries that have expressed interest in hosting the 2038 Asian Games, with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) indicating that the final host decision is not expected before 2028. India formally submitted its bid for Ahmedabad in April 2026, and the OCA Executive Board has approved an inspection and evaluation process for the proposal.
OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam said the organisation will evaluate the interested countries in multiple stages. An evaluation committee is expected to visit the bidding nations and assess their sporting facilities, infrastructure, operational plans and financial preparations before preparing an initial report.
The process will then involve a shortlist and another round of assessments closer to the 2038 Games. The OCA has said the long evaluation timeline is intended to allow detailed consideration of the proposals.
India’s bid is part of a broader effort to host major international sporting events. The country has previously hosted the Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951 and 1982 and is also pursuing the hosting of other major multi-sport competitions.
The 2038 Asian Games are still more than a decade away. The OCA will first complete its inspections and technical evaluations before moving towards a final recommendation and host selection.
The Asian Games calendar currently includes Doha in 2030 and Riyadh in 2034, while Aichi-Nagoya is hosting the 2026 edition from September 19 to October 4.
