India Warns Nationals Against Seeking Jobs Through Malaysia Visa-Free Entry
India has warned nationals not to use Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free entry facility to seek employment, citing fake job offers, exploitation and immigration risks.
India has warned its nationals against using Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free entry facility to look for employment, after reports of Indians being misled by agents offering fake job opportunities. The Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur said the visa-free facility is intended only for tourism and social visits and does not permit employment.
The advisory warned that taking up work after entering Malaysia as a tourist violates immigration rules and can result in overstaying, illegal immigration status, exploitation, detention and legal action. Indian nationals have been urged to obtain the appropriate work permit or visa before travelling for employment.
The High Commission also cautioned travellers about fraudulent agents who promise jobs in Malaysia. Genuine tourists should carry valid and verifiable travel documents, including a confirmed return ticket and hotel booking. Travellers are also required to submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card three days before arrival and hold a passport valid for at least six months.
The mission stressed that the visa-free route should not be treated as a shortcut to employment. Indians planning to work in Malaysia should complete the required immigration and employment procedures before travelling.
Basically, a tourist entry is for tourism—not a surprise job-hunt mission.
