US Ambassador Sergio Gor Offers Prayers at Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited Mumbai’s iconic Lalbaugcha Raja pandal and offered prayers during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor joined thousands of devotees in Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on Monday as he visited the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja pandal and offered prayers to Lord Ganesha.
During his visit, Gor described the atmosphere at Lalbaugcha Raja as extraordinary, highlighting the scale, energy and sense of community surrounding the festival. He encouraged people who had never experienced the celebrations to visit the pandal and witness the festivities themselves.
Gor also shared his experience on X, calling the celebrations a vibrant expression of faith and community that brings people together. He extended his wishes to everyone celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi.
His visit came as Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra marked the 10-day festival with large gatherings at homes and public pandals. Devotional music, chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and colourful celebrations filled Mumbai’s streets.
Lalbaugcha Raja is among the city’s most prominent Ganesh idols and has been a major part of Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations for decades. The Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal was established in 1934, with the tradition later becoming closely associated with the Kambli family.
Ganesh Chaturthi honours Lord Ganesha, who is revered as the remover of obstacles and deity of wisdom and new beginnings.
