Gujarat Rain Alert: Heavy Rain to Continue as Monsoon Withdrawal Nears
Gujarat and parts of western India are expected to receive heavy rain as a low-pressure system remains active while the monsoon begins showing signs of withdrawal.
Rainfall activity is expected to remain intense across parts of western and central India on Tuesday as a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining north Gujarat continues to influence the weather. Gujarat remains a key area of concern, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall forecast over Saurashtra and Kutch and very heavy showers possible in other parts of the state.
The weather system is also affecting Rajasthan and could influence rainfall across parts of central India. A trough extending from the circulation towards Jharkhand through Madhya Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh is supporting moisture movement and cloud formation.
Another cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Odisha and West Bengal may contribute to rainfall in eastern India. A separate trough stretching from south interior Karnataka towards the southwest Bay of Bengal is also expected to keep conditions active over parts of peninsular India.
At the same time, the broader monsoon pattern is beginning to shift over northwest India. The India Meteorological Department has said conditions are becoming favourable for the Southwest Monsoon to begin withdrawing from parts of west Rajasthan around September 19.
The developing pattern marks a transition in which heavy rain can continue in several regions even as the monsoon circulation gradually weakens over northwest India.
