Sangrur School Row: Fake Student Allegations Trigger NCSC Complaint Over SC Funds
Complaints alleging fake enrolments and forged attendance records in Sangrur schools have reached the NCSC, prompting demands for an investigation into SC student funds.
Allegations of irregularities in school records in Punjab’s Sangrur district have reached the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), with complaints claiming that fake student enrolments and fabricated attendance records were used to access funds meant for Scheduled Caste students.
The complaints allege that scholarships, food allocations and school grants were claimed using records of students who were either not enrolled or had already left the institutions. The complainants have sought an investigation and action against officials found responsible.
NCSC Chairman Kishor Makwana confirmed that the commission had received complaints and said the matter would be taken seriously. He also alleged that similar complaints involving suspected diversion of funds had been received previously.
The issue has triggered political criticism, with BJP leader Tarun Chugh accusing the AAP government of failing to prevent alleged financial irregularities despite its claims regarding improvements in Punjab’s education system. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia also alleged that false records were being used to claim benefits intended for disadvantaged students.
The controversy has placed renewed focus on the monitoring of welfare funds and student records in government schools. Any formal inquiry by the NCSC could determine whether the allegations have substance, the scale of any financial irregularities and whether officials should be held accountable.
