ABVP Fields 3 Sportspersons for DUSU 2026: Meet the Candidates
ABVP’s DUSU 2026 panel features three sportspersons, including international tennis and handball players, alongside a student-politics candidate.
The ABVP has fielded three sportspersons among its four candidates for the 2026 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, bringing international and competitive sporting experience into this year’s campus political contest.
Yash Dabas, the ABVP presidential candidate, is an international-level tennis player who has represented India in ITF competitions in Spain, Australia and Serbia. He has also participated in the Khelo India and All India University Games.
Riya Chhabri, contesting for Secretary, is an inter-college basketball player and a fourth-year BA student at Sri Aurobindo College. She comes from Mordband village in Badarpur, Delhi.
Lakshyaraj Singh, the Joint Secretary candidate, has represented India in handball at the Asian Games and World Championships. He has also represented Rajasthan at the National Games and Delhi University at University Games.
The fourth ABVP candidate, Ishu Maurya, comes from a student-politics background and is pursuing law at the Campus Law Centre.
The DUSU elections are being contested amid growing attention to youth issues, AI, women’s safety, hostel shortages and broader political questions. The collapse of a PG building that reportedly killed seven DU students has also brought accommodation and campus safety into focus.
With 20 candidates contesting four posts, including six women, ABVP’s decision to field three sportspersons adds a distinctive dimension to the campaign.
