Tamil Nadu Secures Rs 15,300 Crore UK Investment Commitments
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned from the UK with announced investment commitments of Rs 15,300 crore and plans expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on September 17 after a six-day visit to the UK, with the state government announcing investment commitments worth Rs 15,300 crore and more than 10,000 expected direct and indirect jobs.
The commitments include projects across auto components, design and engineering, manufacturing, logistics, renewable energy, power equipment and Global Capability Centres. Samvardhana Motherson International and its European and UK partners account for Rs 11,000 crore, with around 7,000 jobs expected. Wilson Power Solutions has committed Rs 300 crore for a Tiruvallur facility, while other agreements include a Rs 1,000-crore GCC project by Ernst & Young and an expansion by Sigma Technology Group.
Vijay also met Indian High Commissioner Kumaran Periyasamy to discuss India-UK trade opportunities under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. State officials held discussions with companies in sectors including aerospace, defence, chemicals, logistics and retail.
The visit also included an inspection of Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit as part of Tamil Nadu’s proposed Motor Sports City. Vijay reviewed race-control, track and safety facilities and flagged off the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup, in which actor and racing driver Ajith Kumar participated.
The announced figures represent investment commitments through MoUs and related agreements, rather than immediate capital inflows. Their economic impact will depend on the implementation of the proposed projects.
