Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, marking a major moment for the grouping amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics. Xi was received at the airport by Minister of State Muktar Tibrewala, while India welcomed his visit and expressed hopes for constructive discussions on strengthening BRICS cooperation.
The Ministry of External Affairs said India looks forward to advancing collaboration within BRICS and promoting a more balanced, representative and multipolar global order.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the discussions, Anwar praised Modi’s global appeal and popularity, adding another highlight to the diplomatic engagements surrounding the summit.
The BRICS meeting comes at a time of growing geopolitical tensions and questions over the effectiveness of traditional multilateral institutions. Experts examining the summit highlighted the changing nature of the bloc, including its expansion, internal differences and evolving economic architecture.
The discussions also focused on BRICS’ growing importance as a platform for dialogue among countries amid international rivalries. With the grouping expanding its influence and membership, the summit is expected to provide an opportunity for member nations to discuss cooperation while navigating differences over global economic and strategic issues.
