Australian Open 2026 Draw: Djokovic, Sinner in Same Half; Madison Keys Gets Challenging Path

The draw for the Australian Open 2026 has set the stage for several high-profile clashes, with men’s singles giants Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner placed in the same half of the bracket. The draw was unveiled on Thursday in Melbourne.

Djokovic, a 10-time champion in Melbourne, could potentially face defending champion Sinner in a blockbuster semifinal. While the Serbian once dominated their rivalry, the Italian has turned the tide in recent years, winning their last five encounters, including a semifinal victory at the 2024 Australian Open. Djokovic, now 38, continues his pursuit of a historic 25th Grand Slam singles title, which would move him past Margaret Court’s long-standing record. He opens his campaign against Spain’s Pedro Martínez.

Second seed Sinner, aiming for a rare third consecutive Australian Open title, will begin his title defence against French left-hander Hugo Gaston in the opening round.

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz also finds himself in a competitive section of the men’s draw. The Spaniard, who is chasing a Career Grand Slam in Melbourne, has been drawn in the same half as Alexander Zverev and will start his tournament against Australia’s Adam Walton.

Women’s draw promises marquee matchups

The women’s singles draw has also thrown up intriguing possibilities. Reigning champion Madison Keys faces a demanding route, with potential clashes against fellow Americans as the tournament progresses.

A possible second-round showdown between third seed Coco Gauff and veteran Venus Williams has captured attention. Williams, making her 22nd appearance in Melbourne, must first overcome Serbia’s Olga Danilović, while Gauff opens against Kamilla Rakhimova. The two last met at Wimbledon in 2019, when a teenage Gauff stunned the former world No. 1.

They are joined in the same half by Aryna Sabalenka, the Australian Open champion in 2023 and 2024, who begins her campaign against French wildcard Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah after arriving in strong form following her Brisbane title defence.

With several potential heavyweight clashes looming in both draws, the Australian Open 2026 promises two weeks of intense, high-quality tennis in Melbourne.
