CCTV footage from a juvenile observation home in Jammu and Kashmir’s R S Pura has captured three inmates attacking security personnel and escaping from the facility, police said on Monday.
The incident reportedly took place around 5:15 pm at the Observation Home in the border area of Jammu district. According to officials, the escapees include Karajeet Singh, also known as Gugga, a resident of Dablehar in R S Pura, and two Pakistani nationals identified as Mohammad Suna-ullah and Ahsan Anwar.
Police said the three allegedly assaulted two policemen posted on guard duty before fleeing the premises.
CCTV captures moment of breach
Footage from inside the facility shows one of the inmates pointing a firearm at security staff and opening fire. Authorities said a locally made pistol was allegedly smuggled into the observation home.
Investigators are currently probing how the weapon entered the facility and whether there were lapses in security arrangements.
Two officers injured
Two security personnel — Special Police Officer Vinay Kumar and Head Constable Praveen Kumar — sustained injuries during the incident.
They were first taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment and later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital for further care, according to medical officials.
Police said both officers are receiving treatment and further medical updates are awaited.
Escape and search operation
After escaping from the juvenile home, the three inmates allegedly robbed a motorcycle at gunpoint and fled the area, officials said.
Security has been heightened across Jammu district. Police have set up special checkpoints on roads leading towards Samba district and other key routes. Authorities are also monitoring areas near the national highway and border regions.
A large-scale search operation has been launched. Special teams have been formed, and raids are being conducted at multiple locations as part of the manhunt.
Senior officials visit site
Senior police officers, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General Bhim Sen Tuti, visited the observation home following the jailbreak.
Officials said investigations are underway to determine the exact sequence of events and identify any security gaps that may have contributed to the breach.
Further details are awaited as police continue their search for the three escapees.
