Hyderabad: EAGLE Force Apprehends Juvenile With 10 kg Ganja at Railway Station

A special anti-narcotics team apprehended a juvenile with 10 kg of ganja at a railway station in Hyderabad, foiling an alleged interstate drug trafficking attempt.

The EAGLE Force, in coordination with local police, acted on specific intelligence and detained the 17-year-old at the Nature Cure Hospital railway station on January 5. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately ₹5 lakh.

Investigators said the juvenile was allegedly being used by a Mumbai-based drug syndicate to transport narcotics across state lines. Officials noted that traffickers are increasingly exploiting minors to evade law enforcement scrutiny.

During questioning, it emerged that the juvenile works as a tempo cleaner in Mumbai and was lured with a small payment to undertake the trip. He was reportedly sent to Malkangiri in Odisha under the pretext of a transport assignment, where he received a travel bag containing multiple packets of ganja.

The minor was instructed to board a train to Mumbai and hand over the bag to another individual. However, he was intercepted while waiting at the station before he could begin the journey.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. Authorities said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the main accused and dismantle the wider trafficking network.

Officials reiterated that the use of juveniles in drug trafficking is a serious offence and warned of strict action against those exploiting minors for illegal activities.
