A shocking triple murder has come to light from Laxmi Nagar in New Delhi, where a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his mother, sister and 14-year-old brother after feeding them sweets laced with a sedative. Police said the accused later walked into the local police station and confessed to the crime, citing severe financial distress.
According to investigators, the accused, Yashveer Singh, surrendered at the Laxmi Nagar police station around 5 pm on Monday. He told officers that he had mixed dhatura, a poisonous plant, into sweets consumed by his family members before strangling them when they lost consciousness. Police, however, said the exact substance is yet to be confirmed as the accused has given inconsistent statements.
What police have found so far
After the confession, police teams rushed to the family’s rented flat near Subhash Chowk, where they found the bodies of 46-year-old Kavita Singh, her 23-year-old daughter Meghana, and 14-year-old son Mukul. The family had been living in the three-bedroom flat for nearly two years.
Senior officers said the accused claimed he had been jobless for months, unable to pay rent, and under mounting pressure. He also told police that his wife had recently left him following disputes linked to alleged gambling and substance abuse.
Sequence of events
Investigators said the accused claimed to have fed his family sweets between 2 pm and 3 pm. Once they became unconscious, he allegedly strangled them with a muffler around 3 pm. Forensic teams later collected samples from the flat, and post-mortem examinations will determine the exact cause of death.
The accused also told police that his mother had scolded him earlier in the day over repeated suicide attempts and financial instability. Officers said these claims are being verified and nothing is being taken at face value.
Neighbours in shock
Residents of the area described the family as quiet and deeply religious. Many said they had little interaction with them and only learned of the killings when police and ambulances arrived at the building.
Police confirmed that Delhi Police has arrested the accused and is continuing interrogation. His wife and father have been asked to join the investigation.
