A powerful story of resilience and health awareness has emerged after Zerodha founder Nithin Kamath shared his wife Seema Kamath’s cancer recovery journey alongside her recent achievement at the Tata Mumbai Marathon.
Kamath reflected on the sight of participants with disabilities taking part in the marathon, calling their determination deeply humbling. He also revealed that Seema completed a 10-kilometre run in under an hour—nearly two and a half years after surviving breast cancer.
In a detailed personal blog, Seema Kamath recounted being diagnosed with stage-2 breast cancer in November 2021, despite considering herself extremely fit and symptom-free. A routine health check led to the discovery, turning what she described as a normal life into an emotional and physical roller coaster.
She highlighted the importance of early detection, noting that regular screenings can be lifesaving even for those who feel perfectly healthy. Seema also addressed the lingering stigma around cancer in India, stressing the need for open conversations and proactive health awareness.
Her account traces the demanding journey through surgery and chemotherapy, detailing the toll of treatment, including fatigue and hair loss. She wrote about choosing to undergo treatment in India and expressed gratitude for the medical care she received, emphasising the quality and efficiency of local healthcare.
One of the most personal moments she shared was shaving her head alongside her husband during chemotherapy, a gesture she said helped her emotionally and made the experience easier for their young son. Seema underscored the role of mental resilience, family support, and adequate health insurance in recovery, reiterating that health is the foundation of every other form of security.
The story has resonated widely online, drawing praise for its honesty and for highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, strength, and hope beyond illness.
