Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said political stability and consistent reforms have strengthened investor confidence in India, following recent trade agreements including the India-US trade deal.
In an interview with news agency PTI, the Prime Minister spoke about India’s expanding network of free trade agreements (FTAs) with multiple countries, including the United States and the European Union.
Political Stability and Investor Trust
Modi said India’s “political predictability” has helped restore trust among global investors.
He highlighted the country’s young and skilled population, strong growth focus, low inflation efforts and macroeconomic stability as key drivers of confidence.
According to him, India has created a reform-oriented policy environment that supports long-term economic growth.
Trade Deals Signed from ‘Position of Strength’
The Prime Minister said India has signed free trade agreements with 38 countries and negotiated them from a position of strength.
He noted that stronger manufacturing, services and MSME sectors gave India leverage during negotiations.
Modi added that the agreements are designed to expand market access for sectors such as textiles, leather, chemicals, handicrafts and gems, especially benefiting small and medium enterprises.
He also criticised the previous UPA government, saying that earlier trade talks often began but did not result in meaningful outcomes.
Reform Priorities for the Next Decade
Looking ahead, Modi outlined three priorities for the coming decade:
-
Structural reforms
-
Deeper innovation
-
Simpler governance
He said that although significant reforms have already been implemented, he remains focused on accelerating progress.
Digital Growth and AI Focus
The Prime Minister referred to India’s digital transformation, particularly the expansion of UPI platforms, as an example of structural reform.
He also said the government is working to build a strong artificial intelligence ecosystem by increasing computing capacity and expanding data centre infrastructure.
Women and Defence in Focus
Modi said women will play a central role in achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat.” He stated that women’s welfare continues to guide policy decisions.
On the Union Budget, including defence spending, he said the government’s approach reflects preparedness rather than urgency.
According to Modi, modernising the defence sector is essential to address current security realities and ensure India remains strong and prepared.
