UP Woman Injures Abdomen Amid Labour, Baby Stable

A 34-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district allegedly injured her abdomen with a knife after being unable to bear labour pain. She later delivered a healthy baby girl at a local health centre, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The incident took place in Nandwal village. According to police, the woman was alone at home when she began experiencing severe labour pain around 1:30 pm. Her children were reportedly outside playing, and no other adult was present in the house.

Neighbours said they heard her crying in distress. Officials stated that she allegedly used a kitchen knife to inflict a deep wound on her abdomen.

Villagers rushed to her home after hearing her screams and found her seriously injured. She was immediately taken by ambulance to a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors conducted an emergency delivery.

Medical staff confirmed that she gave birth to a baby girl around 2:30 pm. The newborn was declared stable and later admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at the district hospital for observation.

Due to the seriousness of her abdominal injury, doctors referred the woman to the district hospital. After initial treatment, she was shifted to the KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow for advanced medical care.

District hospital officials stated that she had sustained a deep abdominal wound caused by a sharp object. Doctors attending to her described her condition as critical at the time of referral.

Police identified the woman as Nankai Kumari. According to officials, her husband passed away six months ago after a prolonged illness. She was living with her four sons in the village.

Her mother accompanied her during the transfer to Lucknow and is currently caring for the newborn child.

A video allegedly showing the injured woman on a stretcher has surfaced on social media. Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the video’s authenticity.

The incident has left residents of the village shocked. Local police said further details are being gathered, and necessary procedures are being followed.

Medical authorities have urged pregnant women to seek timely medical assistance and ensure the presence of family members or neighbours during the final stages of pregnancy to avoid such emergencies.
