Actor Yami Gautam, who is currently earning widespread acclaim for her performance in the courtroom drama Haq, once candidly spoke about moments when she felt she did not belong in the Hindi film industry. The actor revealed that during such emotionally challenging phases, her family and filmmaker husband Aditya Dhar remained her strongest pillars of support.
In a past interview, Yami shared that there were instances when she felt “unwelcome,” adding that such feelings often do not need verbal confirmation. According to her, a single look or moment of indifference can make an outsider feel excluded in the industry. Despite these experiences, she credited her resilience to the unwavering backing of her family.
Aditya Dhar’s quiet support
Getting emotional while recalling her journey, Yami said that one phone call to her mother or sister was often enough to help her regain confidence. She also highlighted how Aditya Dhar, with whom she shares a similar value system, has been a steady source of emotional strength. The actor noted that both she and Aditya are not overly social and prefer staying grounded rather than seeking validation in social circles.
The couple first met while working on Uri: The Surgical Strike, a collaboration that later turned into a personal partnership rooted in mutual respect and understanding.
Praise for ‘Haq’
Yami’s latest film Haq, which premiered on Netflix, has drawn praise from across the film fraternity. Several prominent personalities lauded her restrained yet powerful performance, calling it one of her finest to date.
The film is inspired by the landmark legal battle of Shah Bano Begum and traces the journey of a woman who turns to the justice system after being denied financial support. Directed by Suparn Verma, Haq highlights issues of women’s rights, dignity and constitutional justice.
