Hollywood has a new box office record-holder. Zoe Saldana, aged 37, has officially become the world’s highest-grossing actor in cinema history, with her films collectively earning more than $15.5 billion worldwide.
The milestone follows the massive global success of Avatar: Fire and Ash, directed by James Cameron, which crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office. The achievement places Saldana ahead of several Hollywood heavyweights, including Scarlett Johansson, who previously held the top spot.
Saldana’s record-breaking total is powered by her presence in some of the highest-grossing franchises in film history. She has appeared in four of the seven highest-grossing films of all time, including the top three. Her roles across the Avatar films alone account for over $6.6 billion, while her performances as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have generated more than $7.5 billion globally. She has also been part of the Star Trek reboot series.
With upcoming appearances in future Avatar installments and the next Avengers film, Saldana’s box office tally is expected to rise further. Her ascent has reshaped long-standing box office rankings historically dominated by actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise, and Dwayne Johnson.
The achievement highlights a broader shift in global cinema, where franchise-led storytelling and ensemble casts continue to redefine commercial success in the entertainment industry.
