Bihar School Exam: Students Seen Using Phones, Headmistress Faces Action
A viral video showing students using mobile phones during a half-yearly exam in Begusarai has led to an inquiry and action against the school headmistress.
Several students were allegedly caught using mobile phones while appearing for their half-yearly examinations at an upgraded secondary school in Begusarai’s Mokhtiyarpur. A video showing students with phones inside the examination hall went viral on social media, prompting education officials to initiate an inquiry.
The incident reportedly took place on September 22 at the Upgraded Secondary School in Mokhtiyarpur. The viral footage shows students using mobile phones while attempting their question papers, with no invigilator visible in the recording.
Following the incident, Begusarai District Education Officer Manoj Kumar said the school headmistress was issued a show-cause notice and her salary was withheld. An inquiry has also been ordered to identify the teachers assigned to invigilation and determine responsibility for the lapse.
Headmistress Lucy Kumari attributed the situation partly to a shortage of teachers. Examinations for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 were reportedly being conducted around the same time, while only three teachers were available in the Plus Two section.
She acknowledged that allowing students to carry phones into the examination hall was a mistake and said steps would be taken to prevent a repeat.
The incident has raised questions about examination supervision at the school. And yes, bringing a smartphone to an exam may be the ultimate “open-book test” strategy — except nobody apparently checked whether the book was a phone.
