Daayra Box Office Day 1: Kareena Kapoor Film Opens at ₹90 Lakh
Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Daayra opened to an estimated ₹90 lakh nett in India, trailing Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe on day one.
Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran, opened to a slow response at the Indian box office on Friday. The crime thriller earned an estimated ₹90 lakh nett on its opening day, according to Sacnilk.
The film, which marks Kareena and Prithviraj’s first major big-screen collaboration, was screened across 2,238 shows and recorded an overall occupancy of 11.65% on Friday. Its Hindi version contributed most of the opening-day earnings, while the Malayalam version saw only a minimal contribution.
Daayra also released alongside Kunal Kemmu’s directorial Vibe, creating a box-office clash between the two films. Starring Kemmu, Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava, Vibe collected an estimated ₹1.50 crore nett on its first day, putting it ahead of Daayra in the opening-day numbers.
Directed by Gulzar and written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Gulzar, Daayra is inspired by true events and explores themes surrounding justice, the judiciary and institutional failures affecting women.
The film also features Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljeet Singh, Sandeep Kulkarni and Trupti Khamkar. Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, the film was released in cinemas on September 18.
Day one clearly wasn’t a box-office dhamaka, but the weekend still has plenty of ground to cover.
