India faced an injury scare ahead of the Afghanistan T20I series as wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan appeared to hurt his back during a practice session in Delhi on Friday, September 11. Kishan was batting in the nets when he attempted to evade a bouncer from Navdeep Saini, who was bowling as a net bowler.

Indian team physios immediately attended to Kishan, who appeared uncomfortable. The incident occurred near the end of his 45-minute batting session, after which he did not continue. However, the injury did not appear serious, as Kishan was able to walk off the field on his own and later sat with teammates on the ice box.

Before the incident, Kishan looked in good touch and displayed fluent strokeplay while batting alongside captain Shreyas Iyer. He has been an important part of India's T20 setup since returning to the side and has enjoyed a productive 2026.

Kishan has scored 812 runs in 23 T20Is this year, the second-highest tally in the format during 2026. India will hope the back issue is minor, with the first T20I against Afghanistan scheduled for September 13. Kishan is also expected to travel to Japan for the Asian Games.
