Pa Ranjith’s Vettuvam Brings Mallakhamba to Pan-India Cinema
Pa Ranjith’s Vettuvam has unveiled its first poster, hinting at a story rooted in the traditional Indian sport of Mallakhamba.
Filmmaker Pa Ranjith is bringing the traditional Indian sport of Mallakhamba to the big screen with his upcoming Pan-India film Vettuvam. The makers have unveiled the film’s first poster, offering a glimpse of players performing on a Mallakhamba pole and hinting that the centuries-old discipline could be central to the story.
Vettuvam marks Ranjith’s first Pan-India film, although details about its plot remain under wraps. The poster has generated curiosity about how Mallakhamba, which combines elements of gymnastics, yoga and wrestling techniques around a stationary vertical pole, will be incorporated into the narrative.
The makers are scheduled to release a major glimpse of Vettuvam on September 18 at 12 pm. The poster was shared with a message describing the film as a world unlike anything audiences have seen before.
The film features Sobhita Dhulipala, along with Kalaiyarasan, Mime Gopi, Guru Somasundaram, Shabeer Kallarakkal, John Vijay, Sai Dheena, Anand Saami, Harish Uthaman and several others.
G V Prakash Kumar is composing the music, reuniting with Ranjith after Thangalaan. Roopesh Shaji is the cinematographer, Selva RK is the editor, SS Murthi is the art director and Dhilip Subbarayan is handling the action choreography. Vettuvam is expected to give Mallakhamba a wider cinematic platform while exploring a story rooted in an Indian traditional discipline.
