PM Modi Calls for Global Governance Reform, Backs Stronger Global South Role
At the BRICS Summit, PM Modi called for global governance to shift from a pyramid of power and privilege towards a platform of partnership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a transformation in global governance, urging countries to move from a “pyramid of power and privilege” towards a platform based on partnership and greater representation for the Global South. He made the remarks during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Modi emphasised the need for international institutions to better reflect the changing global order and give developing countries a stronger voice in decision-making. His call comes as BRICS seeks to expand its role in addressing economic, geopolitical and developmental challenges.
The Prime Minister’s remarks highlight India’s continued focus on strengthening cooperation among countries of the Global South. New Delhi has repeatedly argued that global institutions must become more inclusive and responsive to the concerns of emerging and developing economies.
The BRICS grouping, which has expanded beyond its original five members, provides India with a platform to push for reforms in global governance while promoting cooperation on trade, development, technology, energy and other areas.
Modi’s comments come as India hosts the summit in New Delhi, bringing together leaders from BRICS member countries at a time of growing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. The summit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among members and giving greater weight to the interests of developing nations.
