PM Modi Likely to Visit US for G20 Summit, Canada in December
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the US for the December G20 Summit in Florida and travel to Canada around the same period for bilateral engagement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to the United States in December to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Florida, where US President Donald Trump will host the gathering on December 14 and 15. India has not yet formally announced Modi’s travel plans, but preparations are reportedly underway.
If the visit goes ahead, Modi is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the summit. A possible Quad leaders’ meeting involving India, the US, Japan and Australia is also being discussed around the G20 gathering.
Modi is also expected to visit Canada around the same period. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said India and Canada are making good progress in trade negotiations and confirmed that he expects to host Modi in December, although the exact date has not been announced.
The two countries are working towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with both sides aiming to conclude negotiations in 2026. India and Canada have also been expanding cooperation in areas including energy, trade, defence, technology and critical minerals.
Modi’s potential US and Canada visits would therefore bring together the G20 summit, high-level India-US engagement and ongoing efforts to strengthen India-Canada economic ties.
