Actor Celina Jaitly has opened up about her experience of staying in what she described as an abusive marriage for several years. In a recent social media post, the actor reflected on the emotional challenges that survivors often face when deciding whether to leave such relationships.
Her comments come months after she filed a domestic violence case against her husband, Peter Haag, in a court in Mumbai.
Case Filed in Mumbai Court
According to reports, Jaitly filed a complaint in November 2025 before a Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Andheri, Mumbai. In the petition, she accused Haag of domestic violence, cruelty, and financial manipulation.
The actor has sought compensation amounting to ₹50 crore and other financial reliefs, according to court filings. The matter is currently part of legal proceedings.
Actor Responds to Common Question
In an Instagram post, Jaitly addressed a question that she said survivors often hear: why they did not leave earlier.
She wrote that people often assume it should be easy to walk away from an abusive relationship, but the reality can be more complicated. According to her, abusive relationships may not begin with violence but with emotional dependency and gradual control.
Jaitly also spoke about how cycles of apologies, temporary change, and hope can make it difficult for individuals to leave such situations quickly.
Emotional and Psychological Impact
The actor said emotional and verbal abuse can slowly affect a person’s confidence and decision-making. She explained that over time, individuals may begin to question their own perceptions or feel responsible for repairing the relationship.
In her post, she said factors such as family responsibilities, financial concerns, and the fear of disrupting children’s lives can make leaving even harder.
Family and Personal Life
Jaitly married Haag in 2010. The couple has three sons, including twins Winston and Viraaj, born in 2012, and Arthur, born in 2017. Another son, Shamsher, passed away earlier due to a heart condition.
In her legal petition, the actor has alleged that the abuse began shortly after their wedding and included several incidents over the years. These claims are part of the case currently before the court.
Call for Greater Understanding
Through her statement, Jaitly urged people to reconsider how they view survivors of abusive relationships. She said strength may not always appear as leaving immediately and that sometimes it involves enduring a situation until a person is able to safely move forward.
The actor concluded by expressing solidarity with others who may be facing similar circumstances, encouraging understanding rather than judgment.
