A 19-year-old biotechnology student from Tripura has alleged severe physical and sexual assault by her live-in partner in Gurugram. The accused, identified as Shivam and said to be from Delhi’s Narela, has been arrested, police confirmed.
According to the complaint filed with Gurugram Police, the two met through a mobile app in September 2025. The relationship later progressed, and they began living together in a rented flat in the Badshahpur area.
Allegations of Repeated Violence
Police said the woman alleged that after moving in together, the man began doubting her character and subjected her to repeated assaults.
In her statement, she claimed that on February 16 the situation escalated. The accused allegedly smashed her head against a wall and furniture and hit her with household objects. She further alleged that he poured sanitiser on her private parts and attempted to set them on fire.
The complaint also mentions alleged knife injuries and threats of further harm. Police said these allegations are part of the FIR and are under investigation.
How She Alerted Authorities
The woman told police that she was confined for two days after the alleged assault. On February 18, she managed to access the accused’s mobile phone and called her mother. She reportedly spoke in Bangla so that the accused would not understand the conversation.
Her mother contacted emergency services by dialling 112. Police reached the location and shifted the woman to a government hospital in Sector 10, Gurugram.
Doctors initially declared her unfit to give a statement due to her injuries. She was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she was declared fit to record her testimony.
Legal Action Taken
An FIR was registered on February 19 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to voluntarily causing hurt, sexual assault and criminal intimidation.
Police said the accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway. Officials are examining medical reports and other evidence to determine the full extent of the alleged offences.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details at this stage.
