Racial Abuse Case Filed in South Delhi Row

Delhi Police have registered a case after three women from Arunachal Pradesh alleged that they were subjected to racial abuse and criminal intimidation during a dispute in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area.

According to police, the incident took place around 3:30 pm on Friday at a rented flat where the women were getting an air conditioner installed.

Dispute Over Dust

Officials said that during the installation work, dust and debris reportedly fell onto the premises of neighbours living on the floor below. This led to an argument between the two sides.

The women alleged that what began as a disagreement over the debris soon escalated into the use of derogatory remarks directed at them and the northeastern community.

In a video shared publicly, one of the women claimed that abusive language was used against their electrician and later against them when they intervened.

Allegations of Racial Slurs

Speaking to media agencies, one of the women, who described herself as a UPSC aspirant from Arunachal Pradesh, alleged that racial slurs were used during the altercation.

She claimed that instead of addressing the issue of dust, the neighbours made offensive comments about people from the Northeast and questioned their presence in the locality.

The women further alleged that they were threatened during the confrontation.

Accused Respond

The neighbours named in the complaint are Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain. Police confirmed that a case has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station. Details of the specific legal sections invoked were not immediately available.

Advocate Gaurav, who is representing the couple, said that the matter has been exaggerated on social media. He stated that both parties had discussions after the incident in an attempt to resolve the issue.

He also said that words were spoken “in the heat of the moment” and that his client regrets the language used. According to him, it was the accused who initially called the Police Control Room, and officers were present at the spot.

Investigation Underway

Police said the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on findings.

The incident has sparked conversations online about racial discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in metropolitan cities.

Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from sharing edited or selective videos that could escalate tensions while the investigation is ongoing.
