Two brothers were shot dead by unidentified assailants during a wedding reception in Patna district late Sunday evening, police said.
The incident took place in Shahpur village under the Gopalpur police station limits.
Shot During Wedding Reception
According to officials, the victims — Manjeet Kumar (25) and Manish Kumar (27) — were attending the reception of a local resident’s son when gunmen opened fire.
Police said they received information that the two had been shot at the function. Officers rushed to the spot and shifted them to a nearby government hospital.
“They were declared brought dead,” Superintendent of Police (Patna East) Parichay Kumar told news agency PTI.
Suspected Old Dispute
Preliminary investigation suggests that the killings may be linked to an earlier dispute, possibly related to property, police said.
However, officials added that the exact motive is still being verified and further investigation is underway.
Three spent cartridges were recovered from the scene, police confirmed.
Search for Accused
The attackers fled after the shooting. Police teams have launched efforts to identify and arrest those involved.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic evidence is being examined as part of the investigation.
Authorities have not announced any arrests so far.
Police said more details will be shared once the probe progresses.
The incident has raised concerns about security at large social gatherings, particularly in rural areas.
