A domestic help has been arrested for allegedly planning a fake Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at her employer’s residence in South Delhi’s New Friends Colony.
According to police, the accused, identified as Rekha Devi (40), allegedly conspired with relatives and associates to stage the incident at the home of an 86-year-old retired architect.
Her sister-in-law, Pooja Rajput (45), has also been arrested. Police said others involved include Pooja’s husband, who is reportedly an ITBP constable, and two additional accomplices.
How the Alleged Plot Unfolded
The incident took place around 10 am on February 11. Three men dressed in police uniforms reportedly entered the house, claiming to be ED officials conducting a search.
Police said the group did not present any warrant, authorisation letter or valid identification.
They allegedly intimidated family members, seized their mobile phones and demanded cash and valuables. A bag containing around Rs 10–12 lakh was reportedly handed over. The suspects allegedly photographed the cash and threatened arrest.
However, the victim’s wife managed to contact her grandson, who is said to be a lawyer associated with the ED. When he confronted the group over the phone, the accused allegedly fled the scene with Rs 3–4 lakh.
A case has been registered, and investigation is ongoing.
CCTV and Technical Tracking
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said a special team analysed footage from over 350 CCTV cameras to trace the suspects’ movements.
Investigators tracked a vehicle from New Friends Colony through Sarai Kale Khan and across the Ghazipur border into Uttar Pradesh, eventually locating it in Vaishali, Ghaziabad.
Police also used mobile tower data and IMEI tracking to identify phone numbers active at both the crime scene and the parking location.
Arrests and Recovery
Based on the leads, police raided a residence in Ghaziabad linked to one of the accused. During the search, they reportedly recovered a deputy commandant’s uniform and ID card, a wireless set box, jewellery and a pistol with an expired licence.
Police said preliminary questioning suggests Rekha Devi, who had been working at the house for two years, allegedly provided detailed information about the family’s routine and the elderly homeowner’s situation.
Investigators believe she shared this information with her relatives, who then planned the fake raid.
Investigation Continues
Police are verifying the full extent of involvement of the accused and examining whether proper background checks were conducted at the time of hiring.
Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as the probe progresses.
