8 Held Over Alleged Terror Plot in Delhi

Eight suspects arrested from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal over an alleged terror plot in Delhi; police probe possible foreign links.

8 Held Over Alleged Terror Plot in Delhi

Eight people have been arrested for allegedly plotting a terror attack in New Delhi, according to the Delhi Police. The arrests were made in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal following intelligence inputs.

Police said one of the accused is a Bangladeshi national. Early findings suggest that the group may have been in contact with handlers allegedly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and some Bangladesh-based outfits. The investigation is ongoing.

Arrests Across Two States

Of the eight suspects, six were detained in Tamil Nadu and later brought to Delhi. The individuals have been identified as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ujjal.

Two more arrests were made in West Bengal, taking the total to eight.

Police said the suspects were working in the garment sector and allegedly used fake Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities.

Seizures and Investigation

During searches, officers reportedly recovered several mobile phones and SIM cards. These devices are being examined to determine the scale of the alleged network and possible foreign connections.

According to police sources, the accused had allegedly surveyed multiple cities. A group of four reportedly travelled to Delhi and put up “Free Kashmir” posters at a metro station during an AI Summit event, before returning to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Authorities stated that the suspects were in contact through social media platforms.

Delhi on High Alert

The arrests come amid heightened security in the national capital. Delhi was placed on high alert after intelligence inputs suggested possible terror threats.

Officials said a Pakistan-based banned outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was suspected of attempting to plan disruptive activities. The alert was issued following reports of possible revenge motives linked to a recent suicide blast at a mosque in Islamabad.

Pakistan had earlier alleged foreign involvement in that explosion. India rejected the claim, calling it baseless.

Ongoing Probe

Central agencies are assisting in the investigation. Police said further details would be shared as the probe progresses.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity. Security arrangements in Delhi continue to remain tight.
