Openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane started cautiously, scoring 43 runs from 31 balls and 40 runs from 35 balls respectively. Despite the strong total, West Indies successfully chased the target with two balls remaining.

2026 Semifinal: A More Aggressive Style

Nearly ten years later, India adopted a significantly more aggressive strategy during their semifinal against the England national cricket team at the same venue.

In that match, India posted a massive total of 253 runs, one of their highest scores in T20 World Cup history. The innings was led by Sanju Samson, who scored 89 runs from 42 balls.

Even after losing Abhishek Sharma early in the powerplay, the team maintained attacking intent and reached 100 runs in just 8.3 overs—much faster than the pace seen in the 2016 match.
