Codefest 2026 Highlights Student Innovation in Bengaluru

Interschool technology competitions are increasingly becoming platforms for applied learning and innovation among students. Bringing together coding, design thinking and teamwork, these events aim to bridge classroom learning with real-world problem-solving.

The 9th edition of Codefest 2026 was recently hosted by Oakridge International School in Bengaluru. The 24-hour hackathon brought together more than 160 student participants from various schools across the region.

Focus on Real-World Challenges

Designed as a team-based competition, Codefest encouraged students to create practical solutions addressing contemporary issues.

This year’s themes included HealthTech and Digital Wellbeing, Environmental Monitoring and Climate Technology, Robotics and Embedded Systems, Digital Accessibility, Assistive Technology and Cybersecurity.

Participating institutions included Greenwood High International School, The International School Bangalore, 10X International School, Ekya School and Oakridge International School.

Student-Led Innovations

Several projects drew attention for their practical approach. Among them was a robot designed to reduce risks associated with manual sewer cleaning, an augmented reality-based assistive tool for dementia patients, and a traffic safety alert system using computer vision and ultrasonic sensors.

Another team developed a multimodal artificial intelligence model aimed at detecting AI-generated content across text, images and audio formats.

Students described the event as an opportunity to think beyond technical coding and focus on real-world usability, sustainability and implementation.

Recognising Excellence

Oakridge International School secured first and second positions in the junior category and a tied second position in the senior category, with total prize winnings of ₹55,000.

The event featured Abhishek Srivastava, Senior Engineering Manager at Uber, as Chief Guest. Projects were evaluated by a panel of industry professionals on parameters such as innovation, feasibility, scalability and social relevance.

Emphasis on Experiential Learning

School leadership highlighted the importance of experiential learning and interdisciplinary education in preparing students for future academic and professional pathways.

As part of Nord Anglia Education, Oakridge continues to integrate structured academics with hands-on learning initiatives.

With themes centred on responsible innovation and emerging technologies, events like Codefest reflect a broader shift in school education — from theoretical instruction to practical, problem-solving engagement.
