IIT Delhi Launches Healthcare Entrepreneurship Programme

Healthcare innovation is increasingly being driven by entrepreneurs, engineers and technology leaders, alongside doctors and hospitals. As India’s healthcare sector expands rapidly, the need for multidisciplinary leadership is becoming more evident.

Against this backdrop, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has introduced the Executive Programme in Healthcare Entrepreneurship and Management through its Continuing Education Programme (CEP).

Addressing a Leadership Gap

India’s healthcare market is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, supported by demographic changes, rising chronic diseases and digital adoption. However, experts point to a widening leadership gap.

While healthcare professionals may understand clinical challenges, they often lack training in product development and business strategy. Conversely, technologists and entrepreneurs may struggle with regulatory requirements and patient safety standards.

The programme aims to bridge this gap by equipping participants with both technical and managerial skills required in healthcare ventures.

Programme Structure

The five-month programme is delivered in a live online format, allowing working professionals to participate without leaving their current roles.

The curriculum covers the full lifecycle of healthcare innovation — from identifying unmet clinical needs to product design, regulatory planning, funding strategies and commercialisation.

Participants are required to apply classroom concepts to real-world healthcare contexts. This includes working on product conception, prototyping, testing and go-to-market planning.

Focus on Regulation and Compliance

Healthcare innovation operates within strict regulatory frameworks. The programme includes modules on clinical testing, ethical review, quality standards and compliance.

According to the organisers, understanding regulatory pathways early in the development process is critical for avoiding delays and ensuring patient safety.

Multidisciplinary Learning

The programme is led by faculty from IIT Delhi’s Centre for Biomedical Engineering, along with clinicians and industry practitioners.

The learning model combines lectures, case discussions and project-based assignments. Participants often come from diverse backgrounds, including medicine, biotechnology, engineering, healthcare management and entrepreneurship.

A capstone project requires teams to develop a healthcare product along with a commercialisation plan.

Target Audience

The programme is designed for aspiring healthcare entrepreneurs, doctors looking to expand into innovation roles, biomedical engineers, researchers and professionals working in health technology, diagnostics and medical devices.

Upon successful completion, candidates receive a certificate from CEP, IIT Delhi.
