A former CIA officer has claimed that the United States may be preparing for a military strike against Iran in the coming days.
Speaking on the Julian Dorey Podcast, John Kiriakou said he had been told by another former intelligence official that a decision to attack Iran had allegedly been made.
According to Kiriakou, the information came from a former CIA colleague who had recently visited the White House. He claimed the strike could take place early next week. However, there has been no official confirmation from the US government regarding such a decision.
Deadlines and Demands
Kiriakou referred to recent public statements by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly gave Iran a 10-day deadline to accept US proposals. These demands include ending its ballistic missile programme, halting uranium enrichment and stopping support for regional groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis.
Kiriakou cautioned that such deadlines should be viewed carefully, suggesting that timelines in past situations have shifted unexpectedly.
Divisions in Washington
He also claimed there are internal differences within Washington over potential military action. According to Kiriakou, some officials are reportedly opposed to war, while others favour a tougher stance.
These assertions have not been independently verified.
Military Movements in the Region
The claims come amid reports of US military repositioning in the Middle East. Media reports citing defence sources indicate that personnel movements have taken place at several regional bases, including Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, as well as facilities in Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
Analysts have noted that tens of thousands of US troops are stationed across the region. Iranian representatives at the United Nations have reportedly warned that any attack would lead to retaliation against US assets in the area.
Strengthening Defences
Reports suggest the US is enhancing air-defence systems in the region and repositioning aircraft carriers to reduce exposure to potential strikes.
Kiriakou also speculated that the timing of other government announcements could serve as a distraction from escalating tensions, though he did not provide evidence to support this claim.
No Official Confirmation
At this stage, the US administration has not announced any imminent military action against Iran.
The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic and military developments continuing to unfold.
