Ibrahim Zadran Named Afghanistan Captain for India T20I Series

Afghanistan have appointed Ibrahim Zadran as their T20I captain for the upcoming three-match series against India. The opening batter will take charge in his first assignment as Afghanistan’s full-time T20I skipper.

The India vs Afghanistan series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from September 13 to 17. Afghanistan will host the series in India.

Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has also returned to the squad after recovering from a stress fracture in his right shoulder. The injury had kept him out of the series against West Indies and the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan have selected a strong squad, with Gulbadin Naib returning to add experience and depth. Rashid Khan will lead the spin attack alongside Noor Ahmad and Nangyal Kharoti, while Mohammad Nabi provides further all-round experience.

The pace unit includes Fazal Haq Farooqi, Abdullah Ahmadzai, Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen-ul-Haq. Uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Noor Rahman has also earned a place alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Afghanistan squad: Ibrahim Zadran (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Noor Rahman, Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Nangyal Kharoti, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Abdullah Ahmadzai and Naveen-ul-Haq.

The three T20Is are scheduled for September 13, 15 and 17 in New Delhi.
