‘Child Dialed 911, Hid in Closet’: Indian-Origin Man Arrested After Killing Wife, 3 Relatives in US

A tragic family shooting in the United States has left four people dead, including an Indian national, after a domestic dispute allegedly escalated into violence in the state of Georgia.

Authorities said a 51-year-old man of Indian origin has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting his wife and three relatives inside a residential home in Lawrenceville city. The incident came to light after a child dialed emergency services while other children reportedly hid inside a closet to escape the violence.

Police identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar. The victims included his wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, and three relatives — Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. Officials confirmed that Dogra held Indian nationality, while the nationality status of the other victims is still being verified.

According to investigators, an argument began between the couple at their residence before they travelled with their 12-year-old child to a relative’s home on Brook Ivy Court. Shortly after their arrival, gunfire was reported from inside the house.

When officers reached the scene in the early hours of Friday, four adults were found dead with apparent gunshot wounds. Three children — aged 7, 10, and 12 — were inside the home during the incident but were unharmed. Police said the suspect’s child was the one who called 911 following the shooting.

Officials stated that the motive remains under investigation, though initial findings suggest the incident was linked to a domestic dispute. The suspect faces multiple charges, including felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children.

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed grief over the incident and confirmed that the accused has been arrested. The consulate added that assistance is being provided to the affected family and coordination with local authorities is ongoing.

Law enforcement officials said the case remains under active investigation.
