The first glimpse of Mahakali has created a strong buzz on social media, with Akshaye Khanna and Sriya Reddy drawing praise for their striking transformations. Titled Shukracharya’s War Cry, the teaser was released on August 24 and offers a glimpse into the mythological world of the upcoming film.
Akshaye Khanna appears almost unrecognisable as Shukracharya, the powerful Asura guru. Sporting a long silver beard, matted hair and an intense look, the actor has impressed viewers with his dramatic transformation. His fierce screen presence has become one of the biggest talking points of the teaser.
Sriya Reddy also makes a powerful appearance as Goddess Kali. Her brief but impactful glimpse, including a striking sequence involving an infant, has left fans curious about her role in the film.
Several users on X praised the teaser for its visuals, performances and scale. Many described Akshaye’s portrayal of Shukracharya as terrifying and impressive, while Sriya’s Kali avatar was hailed for its intensity and screen presence.
Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru and written by Prasanth Varma, Mahakali expands the cinematic universe that began with Hanu-Man. The film also stars Bhoomi Shetty and Rohit Saraf in key roles.
Produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, Mahakali is scheduled to release in theatres on January 8, 2027. The film is expected to further expand Prasanth Varma’s mythological cinematic universe.
