Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the younger generation should take over public responsibilities as his own involvement in day-to-day work has reduced. His remarks came amid speculation of a possible Union Cabinet reshuffle.
Speaking at an event in Nagpur, Gadkari said he had spent around three decades in public life and had experienced several ups and downs during his career. He added that he could no longer work as much as before and believed younger leaders should get an opportunity to take responsibilities forward.
Gadkari also said the older generation would continue to guide the younger leaders. He highlighted the need for continued development work, including efforts to ensure that tribal villages in Maharashtra have access to electricity.
His comments come shortly after the BJP announced a major organisational revamp under party president Nitin Nabin. The new 65-member national team includes 51 new faces, indicating a significant generational shift within the party.
The BJP’s organisational changes have also intensified speculation about a possible reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet. However, there has been no official confirmation of any Cabinet changes linked to Gadkari’s remarks.
Gadkari remains a prominent member of the Union government, and his comments appeared to focus on the broader need for generational transition in public life rather than confirming any immediate decision about his ministerial role.
The remarks have nevertheless attracted attention because they come at a time when the BJP is placing greater emphasis on younger leadership and organisational restructuring.
