Relationship Coach Lists 18 Habits of Happy Couples

Relationship coach Comfort Omovre shares 18 everyday habits she says help couples build strong, lasting and emotionally healthy relationships.

Relationship Coach Lists 18 Habits of Happy Couples

A relationship coach has shared a detailed list of habits that she believes help couples build strong and lasting partnerships.

Comfort Omovre, a couples’ counsellor, posted on Instagram about 18 behaviours she has observed in romantically successful couples over more than three years of practice. Her post has since gained attention online.

According to Omovre, healthy relationships are built less on grand romantic gestures and more on small, consistent daily actions.

Appreciation and Affection

She said one common trait among happy couples is frequent and genuine appreciation. Successful partners openly thank each other for both big and small efforts.

Physical affection is another shared trait. Simple gestures such as hugs, holding hands and forehead kisses are, according to her, regular features of strong relationships.

Respect and Boundaries

Omovre also highlighted mutual respect and admiration as essential qualities. Partners see each other as individuals worthy of honour and treat one another accordingly.

Setting healthy boundaries is equally important, she said. These boundaries help preserve individuality while creating emotional safety within the relationship.

Healthy Conflict

Successful couples, according to Omovre, avoid “dirty fights.” They focus on resolving disagreements without intentionally hurting each other.

Effective communication is key. Partners talk openly, listen actively and avoid passive-aggressive behaviour or silent treatment.

She also noted that strong couples are able to disagree when necessary but work toward compromise on important issues.

Friendship and Romance

A genuine friendship forms the foundation of many successful partnerships, Omovre said. Couples who enjoy spending time together, laugh often and treat each other as equals tend to maintain stronger bonds.

She added that such couples continue to “date” each other even after years together. Planned outings, thoughtful surprises and intentional time together help maintain romance.

Accountability and Growth

Another point on her list is accountability. Partners consider each other’s feelings and take responsibility for their actions. Proper apologies and sincere forgiveness also play a role in maintaining trust.

Omovre emphasised that forgiveness should apply to genuine mistakes and not serious issues such as abuse or unrepentant cheating.

She further mentioned collaboration over competition. In strong relationships, partners aim to grow together rather than outshine one another.

Empathy Over Ego

One of the final habits she listed is choosing empathy over ego. Successful couples prioritise understanding each other’s emotions rather than proving themselves right.

According to Omovre, when both individuals focus on making their partner feel seen and valued, the relationship strengthens naturally.

She concluded her post by noting that these habits take time to develop and maintain. Consistent effort, she suggested, is the foundation of long-term success in relationships.
