The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a Rs 604 crore project to rebuild and repair 3,126 council-run primary and upper primary schools across the state. Led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the initiative aims to improve ageing school infrastructure and provide safer, better learning spaces for students.
The Basic Education Department has released Rs 302 crore as the first instalment, allowing reconstruction and repair work to begin soon. District and state-level committees will monitor the projects to ensure work is completed according to prescribed standards.
Of the total allocation, Rs 344.52 crore has been earmarked for 2,243 council-run primary schools. Each school will receive an average of around Rs 15.36 lakh for repair and reconstruction, while Rs 172.26 crore has already been released in the first phase.
Another Rs 259.95 crore has been approved for 883 upper primary schools. Around Rs 29.44 lakh has been allocated per school, with the government releasing Rs 129.97 crore as the initial instalment.
The large-scale UP school revamp will also focus on improving essential facilities for students. The government expects the project to transform outdated classrooms and poorly maintained buildings into safer and more suitable learning environments.
The investment is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader push to strengthen basic education infrastructure. With work set to begin shortly, thousands of students are expected to benefit from improved school buildings and better facilities.
The Rs 604 crore allocation marks a major infrastructure push for council schools and reflects the Yogi Adityanath government’s focus on upgrading public education facilities across Uttar Pradesh.
