Abhishek Sharma Reveals How He Countered West Indies’ Plan in 3rd T20I
Abhishek Sharma smashed 69 off 30 balls to help India beat West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I. The opener explained how he adapted to the visitors’ bowling plans as India took a 2-1 series lead.
Abhishek Sharma revealed how he countered West Indies’ strategy against him after his explosive knock helped India win the third T20I by 14 runs. The left-handed opener scored 69 off just 30 balls, guiding India to a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
West Indies opened with off-spinner Roston Chase and packed the off side to restrict Abhishek’s scoring options. The Indian batter said he recognised the plan and focused on finding alternative ways to score during the powerplay.
Abhishek struck six fours and five sixes, building his innings through smart shot selection rather than targeting a particular area. He also acknowledged Chase’s effective bowling and said he initially showed respect to the spinner.
India posted 223 runs before restricting West Indies to 209 for seven. Abhishek’s 108-run partnership with Ishan Kishan laid the foundation for the victory, while Arshdeep Singh claimed three wickets.
Despite the win, Abhishek warned that West Indies remained dangerous and could recover quickly. He stressed the importance of maintaining pressure and denying the visitors opportunities to return to the contest.
The opener also praised Naman Dhir’s potential and highlighted the importance of preparation in maximising powerplay opportunities. His understanding with Kishan, developed through their IPL experience, also helped the pair build their partnership.
India will face West Indies in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on October 14, with the hosts looking to seal the series before the final match in Bengaluru on October 17.
